On September 8th, the Somerton & Frome Conservative Association ceased to exist and the new Glastonbury & Somerton Conservative Association was created as we prepare for the forthcoming Glastonbury and Somerton seat. The formation of this new parliamentary seat is a result of the Boundary Commission for England's (BCE) efforts to realign parliamentary constituency boundaries to improve representation.
After completing three rounds of public consultations and presenting the final proposals to the Speaker of the House of Commons, the new boundaries are poised to take effect from November 1, 2023, for any subsequent general election.
This new seat mainly consists of the pre-existing Somerton and Frome constituency, embracing towns such as Bruton, Castle Cary, Langport, Somerton, and Wincanton, with the addition of Glastonbury, Street and surrounding villages from the old Wells constituency and Ilchester a variety of smaller villages from the old Yeovil constituency.
