Wincanton & Bruton
LUCY TRIMNELL
My husband Craig and I have lived in Bruton for almost 11 years and have three children who have all been educated at Sexey’s (our youngest also attended Bruton Primary School). I have worked in Maths Intervention at a Somerset secondary school for the past ten years and have a firm belief in the importance of a good education for all children, something which we have in abundance in our area. Prior to my current job I have worked in retail, primary education and lectured at Yeovil College so have understanding and experience of people of all ages.
After leaving school I joined the Royal Navy and served as an Aircraft Engineering Mechanic. I left after 6 years and began to study a degree with the Open University. Much of my course comprised climate and environment modules and have left me with an understanding of the importance of caring for our climate and natural environment.
I have been the District Councillor for Bruton Ward alongside my job since 2019 and have relished the opportunity to become involved in my local community. As someone who has an interest in what is happening and a desire to support people and the community, as well as questioning how things might be improved (or maintained!).
Being a District Councillor is thoroughly enjoyable and I really hope to be elected as a Unitary Councillor in May so that I can augment my efforts as a District Councillor and apply all my skills
to the additional role in Somerset Council during the transition from the existing district councils to the new Unitary authority – with all the benefits this will bring.
